There is something seriously wrong when a riddle is still a riddle after 50 years.

I have mixed feelings about this – what if 99% of the people who see it know the answer, but the last 1% learn something?
There are still many cultures in the US where women are expected to be subservient- maybe they could learn a different way of looking at things?

I really enjoyed this issue, Cat. The reference to Archie Bunker brought back memories. I, too, remember sensing that something was wrong, even though I had come from a very patriarchal culture. Now I’m as American as apple pie. Well, almost!

Thanks for writing this! I am a reluctant “speaker upper” and the more I read pieces such as yours, the more I am inspired to speak up.
I hate the fact that the riddle is still needed…

Thanks for this post. I am also a reluctant speaker upper. But I am trying to affect change by teaching my son that no woman is any less than him. when his friends at school talk about “oh we have all girls on our team, we will lose”, I remind him that they all lost the plank challenge to two (not one but two) girls by minutes. I have him help with chores and work. I remind him that Marie Curie is one of two people ever to get two Nobel prizes and that the flight director at NASA for the moon rocket is a woman. I remind him that I grew up knowing I was no less than any boy.

I hope to affect change one mother of a boy at a time. I hope others will join me in this crusade.

Mom’s are a powerful force of change! Not only are you helping your son and his friends but all the women they will come in contact with!
