If your backpack sets off the seatbelt alarm, you’ve got too much baggage.

In all fairness, the purse I took downtown for work everyday required far more items that I need in a purse for short errands. One needs to anticipate needs for a 12-hour day, whereas the other one just has to anticipate my needs for an hour. But you do sound a bit…over-prepared! It’s pretty understandable, really.

Well.. this is not like those videos made by Vogue where celebrities tell you what they carry in their purse. But I get it. A few years ago I had sciatica and knew I had to lighten my load or I wouldn’t be able to get around. So I now carry a small purse that easily fits inside a tote (personal hand baggage) and one small suitcase that fits under the seat in front of me. I went to London (winter) and India (not winter) on the same trip with that small suitcase – an extra lightweight one.
I remind myself that I can buy anything that’s missing at my destination, provided it’s not Vietnam or Africa, for instance (which, sadly, it rarely is).
Re remedies and cures – I buy the travel sizes of things I want to keep handy, and refill them. So, I always have about 12 Advil and 12 Tylenol, some Dramamine (puts me right to sleep), two bandaids, and a small tube of arnica pillules, because I know I’m going to bang into something, or do some strenuous exercise I don’t usually do, and I’ll need it. Anything else, I buy on the spot… Good luck with your lighter load – you know your back will appreciate it!

Oh this is so up my alley! I, too, tend to heft around too much because I “might need it.” I even went so far as to ship a box to Sedona from St Louis because it would be too heavy for my suitcase. This is right on. Need to lighten up and trust I can be a problem solver on a pinch!
